2012 Pet Idol Runway Show

It’s almost time to preview the stars of our 2012 Pet Idol Calendar at our annual runway show and we’d love for you to join us at the Fogolar Furlan Club on Thursday, November 3 for the big reveal! Doors open at 6:00pm, dinner at 6:30pm, runway show at 7:15pm.

In addition to a runway show featuring our Pet Idol finalists, our guests will be treated to a parade of Humane Society alumni who have benefited from our Pumpkin Fund over the past year. These “rags to riches” stories, if you will, will tear at your heartstrings in one minute, then make your heart sing in the next.

For only $35 per ticket, you will enjoy a wonderful meal prepared by the Fogolar Furlan Club, and amazing chefs Peter Foto and Joe Fillea will be whipping up a couple of tantalizing (vegetarian) dishes to add to the mix! Desserts, coffee and tea will also be included.

We’re also thrilled that Gordon Orr, newly-appointed Chief Executive Officer of Tourism, Windsor Essex Pelee Island, has agreed to offer his witty repartee as host again this year!

We’ll be offering up some amazing items for bid during the live auction and our 2012 Pet Idol Calendars will be available for purchase.

Join the New Canadians’ Centre of Excellence Inc.’s Enhanced Language Training (ELT) Program. Two exciting classes for newcomers to Canada - Administration and Entrepreneurs/Investors - start on October 3, 2011.
ELT for Administration will help you understand the Canadian business landscape and provide you with valuable exposure to the labour market through a voluntary work placement. This class will help you become employment ready by teaching you the language fundamentals of administration.

ELT for Entrepreneurs/Investors will provide you with essential information about the economic environment in the Windsor – Essex region, and will introduce you to the language and fundamentals of entrepreneurship.

Both ELT classes are highly interactive and include a number of guest speakers, trade tours, and networking opportunities.
There is no cost for ELT classes and childcare is provided. Transportation assistance is available for eligible clients.

100 Years of Music Windsor Federation of Musicians

The 100th anniversary of the Windsor Federation of Musicians will be recognized with a year long exhibit in 2011. The exhibit will open in February to coincide with Family Day/Heritage Day. A significant date that will be highlighted is June 23rd which is the official day that the Federation was incorporated. Work has already begun researching the history of the Federation of Windsor Musicians, their relationship to the American Federation of Musicians, the cross border nature of Windsor as a border city and the association of the Federation with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra, Windsor Light Theatre, University of Windsor School of Music and the individual members covering every music genre and the local venues that have hosted (Elmwood, Top Hat etc.) music over the last 100 years.

The museum exhibit will consist of a series of video/oral histories of local musicians, photographs, objects and memorabilia. Another multi-media aspect will be audio and audio-visual recordings of concerts that have taken place over the years in and around Windsor.

D’Arcy Leader’s 8th Annual Windsor/Essex County Humane Society Poker Run in Memory of Stan Kuron takes place on Sunday, August 21.
