Raise-a-Reader Day
Sep 23, 2009 - On Raise-a-Reader Day, over 170 volunteers and local celebrities, elected officials and community leaders join The Windsor Star editorial team and staff at locations throughout the city and county to exchange special-edition copies of The Windsor Star for donations to Raise-a-Reader.
Since 2002, this national campaign has raised more than $12.7 million for literacy programs across Canada and has grown into a year-round initiative with important fundraising events taking place throughout the year across Canada, leading up to CanWest Raise-a-Reader Day. Locally, with the assistance of our volunteers and celebrities, we have collected more than $225,000.00. One hundred per cent of all money raised in Windsor and Essex County through the Raise-A-Reader campaign goes directly to local literacy initiatives.
